Montgomery Real Estate Market

The history of the Montgomery real estate market is longer than that of most modern Calgary neighbourhoods. In fact, it was known as Shouldice before the name was changed in 1943. The area was established as far back as 1911, and it was pretty much its own town until it was annexed by the City of Calgary in the early 1960s. Despite its amalgamation with the big city, its culture is decidedly small-town, and it has maintained a steady population of less than 4,000 residents.

Montgomery Homes

Home buyers who wish to live in Montgomery have numerous choices for single family houses, although condominium units and townhomes are available as well. Since the neighbourhood has a long history, some Montgomery homes are older while others are definitely 21st century in design.

Many of the older homes have been tastefully rebuilt and their style is accentuated by the presence of mature trees in well-kept yards. In contrast, the more modern Montgomery homes are laden with posh features such as huge master bedrooms with in-suite spa bathrooms, wide open floor plans, and spacious kitchens. Along with single family homes, potential residents may also choose to live in condos too. Many of the best homes are located near the community green spaces of Shouldice Park and Montgomery Park. Due to the high elevation of Montgomery, many of the homes also enjoy spectacular views of the Bow River.

Montgomery Amenities

The Montgomery Community Association provides a variety of amenities. The neighbourhood is full of fun places where residents can enjoy social and athletic activities. The Montgomery community association is very active and they manage organized sports in the baseball diamonds and football fields in the parks. People also enjoy using the skating rinks and hockey rinks. Ponds dot the area's parks, and children are delighted by the new playground. Shouldice Arena and Shouldice Aquatic Centre are also popular hangouts.

For shoppers living in the neighbourhood, the two best options are Market Mall, which is situated on a hill above Montgomery and Crowfoot Centre up on 85 Street. Commuters can also take to the road and reach downtown Calgary easily.
