Okotoks Housing Market

Okotoks homes for sale can be found in adult communities, town homes, and condominium developments and in new neighbourhoods. Single family homes are available in every price point, including affordable neighbourhoods and more expensive ones. New home construction in Okotoks means show homes are open every weekend. Luxury homes in Okotoks can be found backing onto town parks, in golf course communities and nearby acreages. The Okotoks Air Ranch is a very unique neighbourhood, with an air strip and airport. Residents have personal aircraft hangers on their properties and can fly in and out at their leisure. This is a wonderful amenity for pilots.

Finding Your Perfect Okotoks Home

The main road through the town is appropriately called Main Street, running parallel with the river. Some historic homes remain, an echo to the past when Okotoks was a major trading area in Southern Alberta. Many have been converted into commercial space. Most homes for sale in Okotoks are located in residential areas around the downtown area, up on the hillside to the east, along the valley floor to the south and north and west towards Highway 7. Being several kilometres to the west of the four-lane Highway 2, Okotoks neighbourhoods are quieter, away from the roar of freeway traffic.

Living in Okotoks

Okotoks is nearing the 30,000 resident mark, making it the largest town by population in Alberta, and more people are moving to Okotoks all the time. The town was the first of area municipalities surrounding the City of Calgary to be developed into a bedroom community. Since the 1970s, lower land values and a less complicated tax structure have made real estate in Okotoks very attractive. The Town of Okotoks is very progressive with water conservation and recycling. It is a sustainable community with a strong Municipal Development plan which has mapped out the future of Okotoks to 2030. Some of the best neighbourhoods in Okotoks include selections like Sheep River and Woodhaven. The town also has a good selection of master-planned communities.

Okotoks Community Amenities

Okotoks has a variety of recreational centres with pools, gymnasiums, hockey rinks, indoor soccer pitches, complete with organized programs. There are 50 km of pathways through the town. Residents can walk almost anywhere, like to the library or the Okotoks Wellness Centre. There is a regional hospital in Okotoks where residents enjoy shorter waiting times. Shopping here is comparable to any suburban shopping area in Calgary. Every shopping need can now be met at any of the town's local shopping centres. In addition, Okotoks schools include public, separate and private schools.

Commuting From Okotoks

Those who work in Calgary take Highway 2 north to the city. The Deerfoot Trail extension intersects with Highway 2 which is a quicker alternative to Macleod Trail. This new six-lane freeway has significantly reduced commute times. There is a private shuttle bus available to commuters, with drop-offs at various stops enroute to downtown Calgary.

Okotoks Recreation

Entertainment in Okotoks includes the Okotoks Dawgs, an amateur baseball team which plays in one of Southern Alberta's finest municipal stadiums. The Okotoks Oilers provides fast junior hockey action during the winter.
