Eau Claire takes its name from an old sawmill that was originally moved from the city of Eau Claire in Wisconsin. Its location was not one of chance. The banks of the Bow River were chosen because of the direct access they provided to natural fallen timber which was perfect for the sawmill. As a result, real estate development began in the area around the sawmill owned by the Eau Claire Lumber Company.
From its humble beginnings in 1885, the housing market of Eau Claire has steadily grown over time. Today, the population is closing in on 2,000, and it has become one of the most popular and sought after areas of Calgary in which to live.
