Glamorgan Housing Market
Much of the area making up the Glamorgan housing market was originally farmland used for agriculture, with some of the outer edges bordering what was then Currie Barracks. Glamorgan real estate development, apart from farm houses, did't really begin until the late 50's, and many of these original houses still stand today along 37 Street and 45 Street. As agricultural land gave way to residential homes and more urban landscapes, Glamorgan slowly transformed into what we see today.
Much of the natural landscape and land, however, has been maintained and utilised in the form of public parks, making the area particularly serene and surprisingly aesthetic for a suburban area of such a busy city.
The demand for homes for sale in Glamorgan was driven by economic growth throughout the city, and many of the original houses were in stark contrast to the types of homes traditionally being built in Calgary. Buyers were looking for bigger homes, and many spacious 3-bedroom bungalows and detached houses began to spring up. More recent developments have taken the form of apartments and condominiums, and the area now has a varied selection of homes for sale. Approximately 30% of homes in Glamorgan are apartments and condominiums, and there is a strong rental market with around 37% of homes being rented properties.
