Cost of Living in Langdon

One of the big draws of moving to Langdon is affordability relative to Calgary's cost of living; for the same price, homebuyers can get much more home in Langdon than in the big city. Many homes in Langdon have quarter-acre or larger lots. Buyers can have a three-bedroom, three-bath house with a two-car attached garage built here starting at approximately $600,000. Commuting to Calgary From Langdon

It takes about 30 to 35 minutes to commute from Langdon to Downtown Calgary (45 minutes during rush hour). That's roughly the same time it takes to drive from the north or south parts of Calgary to downtown, but residents aren't stuck in stop-and-go traffic the entire way. There is no public transportation, so Langdon residents need to own a personal vehicle to commute to Calgary for work or shopping.

The fastest route to Calgary is to take Glenmore Trail, which marks the northern boundary of the town, westbound from Langdon. It's a straight drive into Calgary, and then commuters can take Crowchild Trail northbound. Once they reach central Calgary, they can take the Bow Trail exit; the road becomes 9th Avenue Southwest, which runs directly into Downtown Calgary. Upon arriving in the big city, many Langdon residents use Calgary’s public transit system.

Langdon Park is one of the newest outdoor recreational opportunities in the town. It has a couple of new baseball fields, outdoor basketball courts, a skate park, playgrounds, walking paths, tennis and pickleball courts, and outdoor gathering gardens with fire pits. 

The Track is an 18-hole public golf course with a clubhouse in southern Langdon. All recreational activities at Chestermere Lake are located less than 20 kilometres northeast of Langdon. McKinnon Flats is an outdoor recreation area located just 15 minutes south of Langdon. It's a great spot on the north shore of the Bow River that offers wildlife viewing and trout fishing.

Average high temperatures in Langdon range between -3℃ in January and about 23℃ in July. Residents can expect significant annual snowfall. Snow often begins as early as September, though it usually melts quickly. The snowy season can continue into May. June, July, and August are the three months when the town usually has no snow.

Rocky View County oversees snowplowing and removal during the winter months. Several of the main roads in and around Langdon are Priority 1 roads, meaning they are plowed first after a heavy snowfall. This includes Centre Street, Township Road 234, and Dead Horse Road. It's not unusual for the town to receive more than 23 mm of precipitation in November and 18 mm in December.

July and August are the best months to visit Langdon for the weather. Daytime highs can reach the low 20s and nighttime lows drop to around 10℃.

Schools in Langdon

Schools & Education in Langdon

Rocky View Schools is the public school district in Langdon. Education in Langdon has long been limited to kindergarten through 9th grad but that has changed with the 2024 opening of Horseshoe Crossing High School. Other schools include the Langdon School (K–9) and the Sarah Thompson School (K–5).

Currently, high school students must drive to schools in Chestermere (10 to 15 minutes away) or in the town of Strathmore (15 to 20 minutes away) to attend high school. This distance is especially problematic during the winter months with poorer road conditions. High school students will soon be able to attend school in Langdon. When it opens, the school will initially be able to accommodate up to 900 students in Grades 7–12.
