Strathmore Best Neighbourhoods

Strathmore, Alberta, is experiencing tremendous growth, having more than doubled in population since 2000 and earning recognition as one of the best places to live near Calgary. To meet the demand created by this expansion, a few standout neighbourhoods have been emerging, each with unique offerings and tons of potential. These neighbourhoods, characterized by modern amenities, sustainable living, and accessible locations, are setting new standards for residential development. They provide a glimpse into the future of the town of Strathmore, showcasing how these areas are becoming increasingly desirable for people seeking a blend of contemporary living and small-town charm.

Lakewood

Homebuyers looking for both small-town charm and waterfront living don't have to compromise in Lakewood, located in the northwest corner of Strathmore, just off Township Road 244. It's centred around the massive water feature that once served as Strathmore's reservoir. It's just one of several lakes and large ponds spread through the development, including one set aside for swimming with a private residents-only beach and community clubhouse.

Many homes in Lakewood enjoy private docks, making it even easier to get out on the water to relax or have fun. There's also a community park that has sports fields and courts, a playground, and green space. While it may feel like a rural oasis, those who regularly make trips to Calgary will be pleased to learn their new home is just 50 kilometres from the heart of downtown. Strathmore's amenities and services are also just a few minutes away, including the Strathmore Family Centre Arena and Strathmore District Health Services. Several popular golf courses, like Strathmore Golf Club, are likewise close by.

When fully developed, this sprawling community will eventually feature more than 550 single-family detached homes and a mix of Strathmore townhomes, duplex villas, and condo-style units for those aged 55 or older. Most single-family homes include two to four bedrooms and around 1,400 to 2,000 square feet of living space. They range in price from around the high $500s to the mid-$600s. Townhouses can be found from the $300s and up.

Edgefield

Edgefield offers would-be buyers the best of all worlds in Strathmore, including affordable, newly-built homes. It's set just east of Range Road 251 between Edgeview Road and Edgefield Gate. On one side, residents enjoy plentiful, gorgeous, undeveloped land that preserves the rural charm of the Strathmore area. On the other, they're just up the street from the Trans-Canada Highway/Highway 1, which provides fast, direct travel into Downtown Calgary and around the region.

This area along the highway is also home to the Ranch Market Shopping Centre, which has big-box stores, supermarkets, local services, and delicious restaurants. Residents are also within walking distance of Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre, an indoor recreation facility with two gyms, a track, sports areas, and much more. The rest of Strathmore's services, attractions, and amenities are also just a few minutes away. With the area poised to develop more in the years to come, it's hard to beat this desirable location.

Homes in Edgefield include fully detached and duplex-style properties, all built in the past few years. These three to four-bedroom homes typically offer 1,800 to 2,200 square feet of living space. Several top builders provide features like custom tiling, hardwood floors, stainless steel appliances, high-end countertops, walk-in closets, and more. Fenced backyards and large, front-drive garages will also appeal to would-be residents. Prices range from around the mid-$500s into the $600s.

Wildflower

Another top emerging neighbourhood in the Strathmore area is Wildflower, set along the city's western boundary just north of the Trans-Canada Highway/Highway 1. This makes it among the closest Strathmore communities to Calgary at less than 50 kilometres and 35 minutes to Calgary's City Centre. Residents are also only a few minutes by car from the town's shopping, restaurants, schools, and local services, mainly located near Wheatland Trail.

Development at Wildflower has been ongoing since the mid-2010s, producing a variety of desirable homes. There's even land set aside for a future school site and commercial areas as Wildflower continues to grow. Other areas have been permanently set aside as an environmental reserve, ensuring the area's natural character survives even as more homes are built. There's also a neighbourhood park as well as a sledding hill that's sure to be popular with young residents (and those who are young at heart). With so much potential, there's no telling what Wildflower may look like in just a few short years.

Homes in Wildflower are primarily detached single-family houses. All offer fenced backyards and large garages. Many back directly onto the serene canal area, which features a convenient walking and biking trail that connects to nearby communities. Others are set at the end of quiet, low-traffic cul-de-sacs. Wildflower's three and four-bedroom properties typically sell from just over half a million dollars to the high $600s.
