Homes and Communities in Springbank

Springbank is a lovely rural community located in Rocky View County in Southern Alberta. It's just west of Calgary and offers a wide variety of housing options, including new construction homes, luxury homes, detached single-family homes, estates on big pieces of land, and more. Homes for sale in Springbank come at a premium, with prices ranging from $1.5 million to more than $4 million. Homes in Springbank are comparable to luxury homes in Calgary; though they don't reach the $10 million high-end that homebuyers find in the big city, the community doesn't offer a reprieve from the cost of living in Calgary

Discerning homebuyers will find homes with as much as 12,500 sq. ft. of living space. They may have theatre and billiard rooms, wine cellars, garages for a fleet of vehicles and collector cars, nanny suites, professional kitchens and homes outfitted with the very latest in smart technologies. The well-kept grounds may include an outdoor pool and hot tub, tennis court, multi-tiered decks with outdoor fireplaces and further out, horse paddocks.

One popular spot in Springbank is the planned residential community of Harmony. This community sits on 1,750 acres in eastern Springbank. Harmony will have approximately 3,500 residential units when construction is complete and will house nearly 10,000 residents, increasing the community feel of the area and providing a number of different housing options. These include detached, semi-detached, apartment, and townhouse dwellings.

The additional land in the community will be used for commercial retail, schools, business parks, and open areas such as playfields, greenbelts, parks, and a golf course. A recreational lake is also part of the Springbank community, allowing for additional opportunities.

Springbank Job Market and Commute to Calgary

Jobs & Employers in Springbank, AB

The job market in Springbank is very small since it's primarily a residential community. While there are some planned retail and other developments that will likely grow over time, they won't be enough to support all the residents who will live in the area. Still, it's important to note that Springbank residents have many other opportunities for work thanks to the enormous Calgary economy, and the majority of residents work in the nearby city.

The commute to and from Calgary takes approximately 25 to 45 minutes, depending on the route and the level of traffic. Winter road conditions can also play a factor in the difficulty of travel between the two locations. Most travellers choose the Trans-Canada Highway (AB-1) to drive between Calgary and Springbank, and this is also usually the fastest and most direct route.

Township Road 250 is also used for part of the drive, and AB-1A is an additional option. Both link back into the Trans-Canada Highway near Calgary, so that particular highway is always part of the route between the two areas. This makes it easy and convenient for people to travel back and forth, whether they're doing that for work or fun.

Things to Do in Springbank

Finding things to do in Springbank is easy, especially for people who like the outdoors. Because it's a more rural community, though, many residents travel to enjoy the many things to do in Calgary for their main entertainment and shopping activities. Some of the things that residents can do in and around Springbank include:

  • Explore the outdoors through all four seasons.
  • Get involved with soccer or hockey teams.
  • Experience Calaway Park, a seasonal amusement park and campground.
  • Play a game of baseball at one of the community's parks.
  • Play golf at the Springbank Links Golf Club.
  • Join the Springbank Figure Skating Club.

There are also additional golf courses in the community, so anyone who enjoys playing golf will have lots of options. The more rural, agricultural nature of the community means there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor experiences like fishing in the summertime and skiing in the winter.

Plus, the Springbank Community Association hosts events such as farmers' markets, summer camps and more.

Schools in Springbank

The Rockyview School Division services the area, and Springbank Community High School, Springbank Middle School, and École Elbow Valley Elementary are all available for the residents. There are also two private schools for the community: Edge School and Springbank Playschool Association. Children can get started in the educational system, which provides for students all the way through Grade 12; for higher education, the schools in Calgary are all within reach.

The smaller size of the Springbank area makes it easy and convenient for parents to get their children to and from school. Additionally, children attending the public school system grow together throughout their formative years, creating a close-knit community feel. Ward 5 represents the Springbank schools, and the trustee for that ward focuses on community contribution and civic duty.

As the school population grows in and around Springbank, the district continues to look into how it can increase the digital and in-person options offered to students. The goal is to build additional schools that would accommodate students from Springbank and neighbouring areas.

Springbank Climate

Weather & Climate in Springbank, AB

The climate in Springbank is very similar to Calgary's best suburbs and the city due to their proximity to each other. Summers are comfortable, and there are rarely any hot days, while the winter months are cold and snowy, providing plenty of opportunity for outdoor activities no matter the time of year. Those who want to enjoy activities in the warm weather should visit the Springbank area between early July and mid-August. After that point, the weather starts to cool back down.

Along with the temperature fluctuations, it's also important to note that the cloud cover is variable throughout the year. There are more clear or partly cloudy days during the warmer summer months, which increases residents' ability to enjoy the plentiful outdoor activities in Calgary and the surrounding region. In the winter, the skies are cloudy or mostly cloudy most of the time. Additional clouds begin filling the skies near the first part of October, and that often lasts through the end of June.

Between early May and mid-September, Springbank has nearly a 20% chance of rain daily, and June has the highest number of rainy days. There are more than five months where snow is common, and November has the most snowy days.

Springbank Services

Residents and visitors in Springbank have a number of high-quality goods and services right in their local area. The Springbank Park for All Seasons offers indoor arenas, an outdoor arena, a curling centre, football and soccer fields, and more. There is also a full-time fire station in the community, along with ambulances to transport patients to the hospitals in Calgary. The Springbank Airport is the busiest small airport in the country, offering a training centre and storage for amateur pilots.

Springbank has a recycling center residents can use at their convenience, and water utility companies and water co-ops service most of the Springbank area, and several providers offer natural gas and electricity. An Alberta Government website helps residents choose their providers for these services. This helps ensure they have all the answers to their questions and find the provider that gives them the best value for their needs. Pump-out and private septic systems service wastewater in the Springbank area.

Living the Sweet Life in Springbank

After exploring the Springbank area, it's evident that this district offers a distinctive living experience, combining the tranquillity of rural life with the benefits of nearby urban amenities. Homebuyers considering moving to Calgary increasingly choose Springbank as an alternative that values space, nature, and a close-knit community feel. These benefits make Springbank an appealing choice for those seeking a balance between peaceful countryside living and convenient access to the vibrant city life of Calgary.
