Best Neighbourhoods Near Mount Royal University

Calgary remains a highly desirable city to live in. Population growth has remained steady at a little more than 2% per year for the past few years. That means more businesses, jobs, and new construction homes in Calgary. There are many different neighbourhoods here to meet the type of lifestyle a newcomer moving to Calgary wants to enjoy. The question is, which neighbourhood works best for each of them? Here's a short guide to the best neighbourhoods near Mount Royal University, one of the larger employers in Calgary.

Currie

The CFB Currie neighbourhood borders Mt. Royal University. Richardson Way SW marks the university's northern boundary and Currie's southern boundary. Homes for sale in Currie list from the low $400s, where buyers can find new townhome developments and condos close to the university. Farther north in Currie, a beautiful Modern-style new construction home can sell for more than $2 million. Even from the northern end of Currie, it's only about one kilometre to Mt. Royal.

There are many parks, playgrounds, and green spaces in Currie. In the north part of the city, Richmond Green Toboggan Hill is a spot that sees a lot of family fun in the winter. The Currie Bark Park is a fenced-in park where owners can take their dogs off-leash for some exercise. Most of Currie is residential, so there are very few businesses directly in the neighbourhood. A majority of the companies are fitness and exercise centres. One local hotspot is the Wild Rose Brewery, a quirky taproom located in an old airport hangar.

Currie Amenities

  • Almost exclusively new homes
  • Seven neighbourhood parks (and counting)
  • Bishop Carroll High School

Rutland Park

Rutland Park is directly northwest of Mt. Royal University and west of Currie, less than one kilometre from the campus. Rutland Park is still a growing neighbourhood, so many developments and new home construction is going on. It has a mix of lovely starter homes and newer townhomes. A single-family bungalow-style home for sale in Rutland Park typically lists from the $500s, while a new townhome will list from the $900s.

The Sarcee Shopping Center in the south part of the neighbourhood, closest to Mt. Royal, has several shops, services, and restaurants available.
